A Guide to Move-In and Move-Out Property Inspections

April 27, 2026 5 min

Every deposit discussion, damage question and end-of-tenancy disagreement comes back to one thing: what was documented at the start. A proper move-in inspection is cheap insurance; skipping it is expensive optimism.

What a proper inspection captures

  • Room-by-room condition — walls, floors, fixtures, appliances
  • Existing wear, photographed and noted
  • Meter and utility details where applicable
  • Keys, fobs and access items handed over
  • Signatures from both sides, filed with the lease

At move-out

The same checklist, walked again against the original record. Normal wear is expected and fair; damage beyond it is documented with photos. The comparison — not anyone's memory — settles the conversation. Our move-in and move-out coordination includes this documentation as standard.
